BIOGRAPHY

I was born in Caracas in 1963. Now I spend time between Vermont and the Washington DC area.

Drawing and illustrating has been not only part of my career but it has been a lifelong passion. I love working with light, and the gleams of light over surfaces. For many years I preferred pencil, watercolor and ink until digital tools became available.

My constant search for control of light, shade and empty space aims to provoke a conversation between the image and the observer.

I want to create spaces that allow and invite the observer to complete the scene and the story. Nature is a key part of the conversation and is a recurring theme in my work.

Exploration of consciousness and the subtle communication with living creatures is also one of my quests in animal illustrations.

Surrealism is my favorite art period, with a particular love for the works of Joan Mirò and Pablo Picasso.
The brutalist minimalism of the architecture of Louis Kahn is inspirational along with the storytelling techniques of Robert and Shana ParkeHarrison.
